What is Teamwork?

Teamwork is a project management platform built specifically for teams that do client and billable work. On the surface it looks like a standard task manager, projects, tasks, milestones, Gantt charts, board views, but underneath it adds the machinery agencies actually need: time tracking, project budgets, invoicing, and free seats for clients.

Hands-on testing

We set up two mock client engagements: a website build with a fixed budget and a retainer with monthly hours to track.

Time and budgets. This is where Teamwork earns its keep. Logging time against tasks was quick, and watching the project budget tick down against logged hours in real time was genuinely useful for spotting scope creep early. Few rivals do this natively.

Task management. Solid and complete. Milestones, dependencies, sub-tasks, and a proper Gantt view were all there, and switching between list, board, and table views was smooth. It’s not the prettiest interface, there’s a lot on screen, but nothing felt missing.

Client access. We added a client user to the website project. They could see progress, comment, and approve work without us burning a paid seat or exposing internal tasks. For agencies, this alone can justify the switch.

The takeaway: Teamwork is purpose-built, and it shows most clearly the moment money enters the picture.

Ease of use

Teamwork is approachable but not minimalist. The core flows, creating projects, assigning tasks, logging time, are intuitive, and onboarding is decent. But the interface carries more density than Basecamp or Nifty, and getting budgeting and reporting set up the way you want takes a bit of patience. Day-to-day use is comfortable once configured.

Teamwork vs other project management tools

Against Basecamp, Teamwork is far more capable for billable work but busier and less calm. Against Wrike, both scale well, but Wrike leans toward enterprise process and automation while Teamwork stays focused on client services and billing.
